\frametitle{Welcome to Bogenherr}
\begin{itemize}
\item Been playing the viola for 47 years.
\item Picked up the violin and viola d'amore later on.
\item 100\% classical musician. Not an improvisor. Focus is on
interpretation.
\item Channel mission: just a place to record my musical
journey:
\begin{itemize}
\item Performing
\item Pedagogy
\begin{itemize}
\item As student
\item As teacher
\end{itemize}
\end{itemize}
\item After 47 years I have gathered a lot of knowledge that others
might find useful.
\end{itemize}

\frametitle{Warmup Video Series}
\begin{itemize}
\item Making a series of videos documenting my viola warmup
routine.
\item Five core drills which I do in this specific order:
\begin{itemize}
\item Trills
\item Short fast bow strokes
\item One-string ``modal'' scales
\item Arrepggios
\item Kreutzer \#24
\end{itemize}
\item All drills focus on three areas:
\begin{itemize}
\item Left hand
\item Right hand
\item Posture and alignment
\end{itemize}
\item Goals:
\begin{itemize}
\item Total relaxation and efficiency.
\item An easy and effortless technique with no pain and injury.
\item A highly capable technique that supports the hardest passages.
\end{itemize}
\item One video per drill.
\item This is the first video in the series which will cover Trills.
\end{itemize}

\frametitle{Core Checklist: Left Hand}
\begin{itemize}
\item Three contact points:
\begin{itemize}
\item Thumb
\item Base of index finger
\item Tips of fingers
\end{itemize}
\item Swing elbow to the correct angle for the string. Hand is
oriented such that the fingers naturally fall right onto the
correct spots.
\item All finger motion from the base knuckles.
\item Finger keeps its curved shape. No other joints move. Extra
attention to 4th finger.
\item Barely touch the strings. No extra force. Harmonics are OK,
even encouraged.
\item No tension in the hand, especially across the back of the hand
between the wrist and base knuckles. Floppy.
\end{itemize}
end{frame}

begin{frame}
\frametitle{Core Checklist: Right Hand}
\begin{itemize}
\item Tiny inputs and complete relaxation.
\item No extra weight on the bow stick. Glide across the surface
of the strings.
\item Contact points:
\begin{itemize}
\item Thumb tip against the stick.
\item Outside of thumb against the bow hair.
\item End joints of the first three fingers very lightly wrapped
around the top of the stick.
\item Thumb is directly opposite the crack between the 2nd and 3rd
fingers.
\item The outside of the thumb tip and the very tip of the second
finger should be in contact with the bow hair at all times.
\item The 4th finger curves relaxedly and sits on top of the
stick.
\item The thumb has a healthy amount of curve. The curve hangs
nearly straight down toward vertical.
\end{itemize}
\item Up-bow and down-bow motions are entirely linear. No extraenous
movement in any other plane. Feel the bow stick tugging against
the skin of the fingers, and also the thumb and middle finger
guiding the ribbon of bow hair.
\end{itemize}

\frametitle{Core Checklist: Posture}
\begin{itemize}
\item Forces align vertically.
\item Button directly into neck.
\item Find instrument angle where the jawbone lines up with the
front edge of the chinrest.
\item Instrument held up by left hand (base of index finger and
thumb). No clutching with the head and shoulder.
\item Instrument should rest securely on the table with no help from
the head. No sloping angles. Stand straight with a proud chest and
noble neck.
\item Do not let the head tilt to the right. Lean slightly to the
left if anything, but vertical is best. Lead with your chest like
a ballerina.
\end{itemize}
